Workshop on “Principles of Bowel Anastomosis – Past, Present & Future
With the esteemed support and guidance of the Hon’ble Chairman of Navodaya Education Trust (NET), Sri. S. R. Reddy Sir, the Department of General Surgery, Navodaya Medical College, Raichur, successfully organized a one-day CME & Workshop titled “Principles of Bowel Anastomosis – Past, Present & Future” on 5th July 2025, from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Dr. S. R. Hegde Silver Jubilee Auditorium.
The inaugural function, held at 10:45 AM, was presided over by Dr. B. Devanand, Dean/Principal, Navodaya Medical College. Distinguished guests of honor included Dr. T. Srinivas, Registrar, NET, and Dr. Arun K. N., Medical Superintendent, NMCH&RC. Other dignitaries present on the dais were:
• Dr. Rajesh Kakkeri, Program Director, Professor & Head, Department of General Surgery, NMC
• Dr. K. Ramappa, Organizing Chairman and Professor, Department of General Surgery, NMC
• Dr. Sharanagouda Chandrashekar Patil, Associate Professor, Department of General Surgery, RIMS and KMC Observer
The session began with a welcome address by Dr. Rajesh Kakkeri, who also introduced the speakers and provided an overview of the CME’s objectives centered on the Principles of Bowel Anastomosis. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Santosh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Department of General Surgery.
The scientific program featured orientation by three internationally renowned experts in the field of Surgical Gastroenterology:
• Dr. Vijaykumar Bada
• Dr. Jayadutt Pawar
• Dr. Jayanth H.
Their lectures provided valuable insights into the past, present and future prospects of bowel anastomosis techniques.
A hands-on workshop was conducted at Gurumurthy Hall, NMCH&RC, led by Dr. Md Shakeel , Dr.Venkataramana , Dr. Santosh Kumar, Dr. Abhilash, Dr. Bhaarath, and Dr. Amruth, offering participants practical exposure and skill development in bowel anastomosis procedures.
The event witnessed an overwhelming response with over 240 delegates participating from various medical institutions and hospitals across Karnataka, Maharashtra, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh. The workshop offered a unique academic experience for postgraduate students, consultants, and practicing surgeons, enriching their understanding through interactive sessions and live demonstrations.
The valedictory function, held at 4:30 PM, was conducted by Dr. Rajesh Kakkeri, Program Director, in the presence of the esteemed Resource Persons and the KMC Observer.
In recognition of the academic value and excellence of the event, the Karnataka Medical Council, Bengaluru, awarded 2 credit hours to all registered delegates.
The event was widely appreciated by all attendees, including invited dignitaries and faculty, and was acknowledged as a well-executed and highly informative academic endeavor.
