Department of Ophthalmology, NMCH & RC celebrates “40th NATIONAL EYE DONATION FORTNIGHT”
The National Eye Donation Fortnight is celebrated every year during August 25th – September 8th. The campaign is to create awareness and promote the importance of pledging an eye donation. As a part of it, Department of Ophthalmology, Navodaya Medical College Hospital and Research Center, Raichur conducted different activities to promote eye donation awareness among different sections of people.

Awareness programme was organised for housekeeping and maintenance staff of Navodaya institutes on 29th August 2025 in the Department of Ophthalmology
Radio talk was given by Dr Kanchana on Eye Donation Awareness and it was aired on 2nd September 2025 by All India Radio, Raichur.
Guest lecture on “Eye Donation Awareness and Keratoplasty” by Dr Vaibhav Kandhuri, Cornea Consultant was conducted for House surgeons of Navodaya Medical College on 4th September 2025.
Department of Ophthalmology, NMCH & RC conducts “PUBLIC RALLY” successfully to create awareness and to promote the importance of pledging an eye donation
As a part of 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight to promote health education regarding Eye donation among general public, Department of Ophthalmology, Navodaya Medical College Hospital and research centre carried out a Public Rally from Navodaya Campus to Raichur Railway station on 08/09/2025. Rally was started after a brief Inagraution at 8am.
Dr.B.Devanand, Dean, NMCH & RC, Dr Arun K N, Medical superintendent, NMCH&RC, Prof. Suthana Kumari, Principal, Navodaya College of Nursing and Dr Anupama T, Prof. & HOD, Department of Ophthalmology, NMCH &RC participated in the rally. Staff from Department of Ophthalmology Prof. Dr Sharanabasamma, Prof. Dr Reshma, Dr Kanchana B K, Dr Vadikari Lavan Kumar, Dr Shwetha G and Dr Apoorva D, Postgraduates of Ophthalmology Department were among the others who participated in the rally.
Around 200 MBBS students, 100 nursing students and optometry students enthusiastically participated in the rally and made it successful. 3rd MBBS students delivered their interest in the rally by preparing play cards about Eye Donation awareness.
Dr Devanand T spoke about the importance of vision and eye donation and requested the public to pledge their eyes as one donor can give vision to four people. He congratulated Department of Ophthalmology, NMCH & RC for successfully carrying out rally for such Noble cause. He thanked public authorities for giving permission and peacefully organising the rally.
Dr Arun Kumar emphasised about organ donation especially about eye donation and also asked to utilize the Cornea, Glaucoma, Retina, Cataract and Eye bank services available in the department of ophthalmology, NMCH & RC, Raichur.
Dr Anupama T on behalf of Department of Ophthalmology thanked Hon’ble Chairman, Shri S R Reddy, Navodaya Educational Trust, Dr Devanand, Dean, NMCH & RC, Dr Arun K N, Medical Superintendent, NMCH&RC and everyone who supported in carrying out the activities to promote awareness on Eye Donation. She also thanked prof. Suthanakumari, Principal, Navodaya College of Nursing for encouraging her staff and students to participate in the rally. She congratulated all the students who actively took part in this rally.
