National Service Scheme
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a central sector scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It was launched in 1969, marking the birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi, with the aim of developing students’ personality through community service.
NSS provides an opportunity for students to actively participate in nation-building activities and develop a sense of social responsibility. The programme encourages students to engage with society, understand community problems, and contribute meaningfully towards sustainable development.
The NSS Unit of the institution works with the objective of instilling values such as discipline, leadership, teamwork, empathy, and civic responsibility among students through various social service activities.
Motto of NSS
“Not Me, But You”
The motto reflects the essence of democratic living and emphasizes selfless service. It signifies that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society as a whole.
NSS Symbol (Badge)
The NSS symbol is based on the ‘Rath’ (chariot) wheel of the Konark Sun Temple, Odisha.
The wheel signifies movement, progress, and dynamism, representing the continuous efforts of NSS volunteers towards social transformation. The eight bars of the wheel represent 24 hours of dedicated service, reminding volunteers to remain committed to community service at all times.
