CME and Hands-on Workshop on Recent Advances in Management of Peritrochanteric Fractures

The Department of Orthopaedics, Navodaya Medical College Hospital & Research Centre (NMCH&RC), Raichur, successfully organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on “Recent Advances in Management of Peritrochanteric Fractures 2025.”
The academic extravaganza brought together leading orthopaedic surgeons, eminent faculty, and enthusiastic postgraduate students for a day filled with knowledge exchange, practical learning, and professional collaboration.

Scientific Session
The scientific deliberations began with the introduction of distinguished speakers, led by Dr. Swapnil Pathak and Dr. Hima B.

Dr. Anirudh C. K. (Associate Professor, NMCH&RC) delivered the opening lecture on “Introduction to Trochanteric Fracture and Management of Unstable Intertrochanteric Fracture—Long PFN vs Short PFN”, sharing both evidence-based updates and clinical pearls from his extensive practice and research experience.

Dr. Sridhar Reddy V. (Professor, NMCH&RC and Consultant at Balanku Hospital) focused on practical and comprehensive management strategies for peritrochanteric fractures, especially in elderly patients.
Inaugural Program
The CME commenced solemnly in SR Hegde Hall with a traditional invocation and lamp-lighting ceremony, drawing inspiration from the universal symbols of knowledge, wisdom, and new beginnings.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Sri S.R. Reddy, Honourable Chairman, Navodaya Education Trust, Raichur.

The inauguration was further enriched by a soulful rendition of the Karnataka Nada Geethe, followed by the lamp-lighting ceremony, setting a tone of unity and regional pride.
Dr. Suman N. V., Professor and Head of the Department of Orthopaedics, extended a heartfelt welcome and highlighted the importance of the CME theme. The dignitaries’ inspirational addresses reinforced the commitment to surgical excellence and orthopaedic education.
The event also included felicitations for guest lecturers and dignitaries, acknowledging their contributions to orthopaedic science, education, and service.
The session culminated in a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Mohan Patil (Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopaedics). Chairman Sri S.R. Reddy, Principal/Dean Dr. B. Devanand, Registrar Dr. T. Srinivas, and Organising Chairman Dr. Suman N. V. were applauded for their support and leadership. The inaugural program concluded with the National Anthem.
Academic Session
The academic session resumed with renewed energy as the speakers delivered impactful scientific updates:

Dr. C. B. Chiniwal (Senior Consultant, BBC Trust Multi-Speciality Hospital, Gangavathi) presented innovative approaches to subtrochanteric fracture fixation with TSP (Trochanter Stabilizing Plate) and SS wire techniques.

Dr. Harish Murthy (HOD, RIMS and KMC Observer) spoke on “Primary Hemiarthroplasty in Intertrochanteric Fractures”, emphasizing early mobilization, reduced morbidity, and advances in geriatric fracture care.
The lectures were followed by dynamic Q&A sessions, encouraging active discussion and sharing of clinical experiences among attendees.
Hands-on Workshop
The highlight of the CME was an engaging hands-on workshop on “Recent Advancements in Peritrochanteric Fracture Management.”
