Gunavatta Yatra Awareness Programme Organised at NMCH&RC, Raichur
Navodaya Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Raichur, organised the Gunavatta Yatra Awareness Programme in association with the Quality Council of India (QCI) and the National Board for Quality Promotion (NBQP). The programme aimed to create greater awareness regarding quality standards, accreditation processes, laboratory excellence, patient safety and continuous quality improvement among healthcare professionals.
The programme was organised with the valuable guidance and support of Hon’ble Chairman Sri S. R. Reddy, whose vision and continued encouragement towards academic advancement, quality healthcare and institutional development have enabled the institution to undertake such initiatives. The programme also received valuable guidance from Dr. T. Srinivas, Registrar, Navodaya Education Trust, and the dynamic support of Dr. Amruth Reddy, Director of Operations, NET.
The inaugural function was presided over by Dr. Gurudatta S. Pawar, Dean and Principal, Navodaya Medical College. Dr. Ramesh B. H., Dean/Director, Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences, Raichur, attended as the Distinguished Guest, while Dr. V. R. M. Gupta, Director, Academic Development & Research, Navodaya Education Trust, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Dr. A. S. Aanand, Vice Principal, Professor & Head, Department of Pathology, NMC, and Program Director of the event, and Dr. Arun K. N., Medical Superintendent, NMCH&RC, were also present on the dais.
The programme commenced with the dignitaries watering a plant as a symbolic inauguration, representing growth, sustainability, nurturing of quality and the institution’s continued progress towards excellence.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr. A. S. Aanand welcomed the dignitaries, resource faculty, NBQP coordinators, delegates and participants. He highlighted the progressive outlook of NMCH&RC towards adopting nationally recognised quality systems and strengthening its preparedness for NABL standards in laboratory services and NABH standards in healthcare delivery.
He emphasised that quality should extend beyond compliance and become an integral part of routine institutional culture through accuracy, accountability, patient safety, documentation and continuous improvement. He expressed gratitude to QCI and NBQP for bringing the Gunavatta Yatra initiative to the institution and expressed the hope that similar awareness and capacity-building programmes would continue to be organised at Navodaya Medical College in the future.
The Resource Person for the programme was Dr. Devalaraju Madhavi, NABL Assessor and Head of the Biochemistry Section, Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad. An experienced faculty member and professional in the field of laboratory quality systems, Dr. Madhavi has also had her research presented at AACC, USA.
During the academic session, she provided valuable insights into the principles of laboratory quality management, NABL accreditation requirements, documentation, standardisation, quality assurance and the importance of continuous improvement. Her practical approach and extensive experience provided participants with a better understanding of the accreditation process and its relevance to reliable and patient-centred diagnostic services.
The programme was coordinated by Miss Netra G., Coordinator, NBQP Regional Centre, Bengaluru, with support from Mr. Abhishek Smaran, NBQP Regional Centre, Bengaluru. In recognition of their contribution to the programme, Dr. Devalaraju Madhavi and Miss Netra G. were felicitated by the dignitaries.
The programme witnessed active participation from faculty members of the Departments of Pathology, Microbiology and Biochemistry of Navodaya Medical College Hospital & Research Centre and Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences, along with practitioners from Unique Diagnostic Labs, Raichur.
The proceedings of the inaugural function were efficiently conducted by Dr. Anand Kumar Harwalkar, Master of Ceremony.
The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Vishal Kalaskar, who expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, resource person, QCI and NBQP representatives, institutional leadership, organising team, participating faculty, laboratory professionals, media representatives and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
The Gunavatta Yatra programme served as an important platform for promoting awareness regarding quality assurance, accreditation, patient safety and laboratory excellence, and further strengthened NMCH&RC’s commitment towards developing a sustainable culture of quality in healthcare.
